On Thursday 1 December, we held our final 2022 Business After Hours with Mackenzie Marine & Towage (MMT) and South East Petroleum (SEP). It was a balmy afternoon in the MMT workshop and a great opportunity to celebrate notable anniversaries for both businesses ⭐️
Mackenzie Marine & Towage (MMT) is celebrating its 50th year of being the only towage provider in the Port since the first official towage contract was awarded in 1972. MMT General Manager, Ian Saunders, spoke about MMT’s history of continual development and the addition of their 4th tug, “Lillian Mac”, which is being constructed by Sanmar Shipyards in Turkey. Focused on the future, Brooke Mackenzie is the fourth generation of Mackenzie’s to operate the tug boats, and spoke about the integral role of upskilling younger generations in the Esperance region to work in the industry.
This year, South East Petroleum (SEP) is celebrating 40 years of operation! SEP is a Fuel Transport business going back 3 generations. Last night we heard from Grant Harris, who owns the business with his wife, Michelle. Grant highlighted the important relationship between MMT and SEP, and the crucial role of MMT in SEP’s operations and confidence SEP can provide to their customers due to this relationship.
Both businesses play an integral part in the Esperance business community, providing sponsorship and support to various community groups, including ongoing support to the Esperance Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Thank you to MMT and SEP for hosting our final Business After Hours, and all who attended last night. And congratulations to our lucky door prize winners 🎉
